Labor Code and PAGA Wage and Hour Claims Against Public Entities

labor code paga public entities Mar 21, 2023

I do three things - all CA civil law related:

  • I serve as a mediator, arbitrator and referee with ADR Services, Inc.
  • I publish California Case Summaries™
  • I provide Master Lawyer Mentoring™

In this blog post, I discuss a new civil case published last month.

Labor Code and PAGA Wage and Hour Claims Against Public Entities

The California Labor Code, including PAGA, allows employees to bring wage and hour claims against their employers. But what if the employer is a public entity? Last month, the First District Court of Appeal published the case of Stone v. Alameda Health System (2023) _ Cal.App.5th _ , 2023 WL 1508276 addressing this issue. Subscribers to my publication California Case Summaries™ only need to read my one-paragraph summary of this new case to know what they decided.

Mediation, Arbitration and Referee Services

I settle cases as a mediator, fairly decide cases as an arbitrator, and fairly decide issues as a referee at ADR Services, Inc. I handle business, employment, insurance (bad faith, coverage, UIM), probate (trust and estate), real property, and tort (elder abuse, medical malpractice, personal injury, product liability and wrongful death) cases. I bring to each matter the valuable perspective and experience of a California civil trial lawyer since 1980, and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates since 1995, who has represented plaintiffs and defendants, and has served as the president of the San Diego County Bar Association. To schedule a new matter, please contact my case managers at ADR services, Haward Cho, [email protected], (213) 683-1600 or Rachael Boughan, [email protected], (619) 233-1323.

California Case Summaries

Every year California courts publish 475-550 new civil cases and many of these new cases significantly change the law. California lawyers need to know about the new cases in their practice areas, but it has historically been hard to do this because many cases are 50-100 pages long, and CA courts also publish cases in other areas including criminal law, juvenile law and family law. My publication California Case Summaries, with one-paragraph summaries, organized by legal topic, helps subscribers quickly and easily know the new cases, so they can use this knowledge to work up their active cases better, make better arguments, get bigger settlements, and win more summary judgments and trials to make more money.
