Retired Judge Ken Medel has been a mediator, arbitrator, judicial and discovery referee and special master at Signature Resolution since 2024. Judge Medel s an ABOTA member and distinguished civil trial judge who served on the San Diego Superior Court from 2010 to 2024. Judge Medel served on the Superior Court Executive Committee for many years and also served as an Independent Calendar Civil Judge for many years. Before he was appointed to the bench, Judge Medel was a medical malpractice defense attorney in the Medel Law Firm, Medel & Rawers, and Ault, Midlam & Deuprey. Before that, he served for many years as a Deputy District Attorney with the San Diego District Attorney's Office.

He has tried over 100 civil cases including jury trials, judge trials, administrative hearings, hospital medical staff hearings, and arbitrations where he represented plaintiffs and defendants in business, CEQA, elder abuse, employment, hospital medical staff, insurance bad faith, land use, Medical Board of California, medical malpractice, personal injury, real property, and wrongful death and other tort cases. Monty has recovered over $50 million in judgments and settlements for plaintiff clients and has recovered numerous defense verdicts and favorable results for defense clients. Monty is a past president of the San Diego County Bar Association and the San Diego Chapter of ABOTA, a Master in the Enright Inn of Court, a recipient of two Outstanding Trial Lawyer awards, and a past member of the ABOTA National Board of Directors, National Conference of Bar Presidents, ABA House of Delegates, and the ABA Standing Committee on Judicial Independence.
