Retired Judge Jeffrey Barton has been a mediator and arbitrator at Judicate West since 2021.

Judge Barton is an ABOTA member, a past Presiding Judge of the San Diego Superior Court, and a distinguished civil trial judge. He served on the San Diego Superior Court from 2001 to 2021. Judge Barton was the Presiding Judge from 2016-2017, and the Assistant Presiding Judge from 2014-2015. Judge Barton served as a Civil Supervising Judge from 2007-2013. He served as an Independent Calendar Civil Judge from 2004-2012, and also had assignments in family, criminal and open trial department for all case types.

Before he was appointed to the bench, Judge Barton was a defense attorney and a partner at Lewis, D’Amato, Brisbois & Bisgaard from 1990-2001, where he tried cases in the areas of professional liability, medical malpractice and product liability matters. Judge Barton was admitted into ABOTA in 1995. He started his legal career at McInnis, Fitzgerald, Rees, Sharkey & McIntyre.

Monty has recovered over $50 million in judgments and settlements for plaintiff clients and has recovered numerous defense verdicts and favorable results for defense clients. Monty is a past president of the San Diego County Bar Association and the San Diego Chapter of ABOTA, a Master in the Enright Inn of Court, a recipient of two Outstanding Trial Lawyer awards, and a past member of the ABOTA National Board of Directors, National Conference of Bar Presidents, ABA House of Delegates, and the ABA Standing Committee on Judicial Independence.
